Man United could look at a move to sign Max Kilman this summer, if their main targets are unavailable.

Manchester United will sign a central defender this summer. Raphael Varane’s minutes need replacing, while Lisandro Martinez’s constant injury problems are also a worry. The club need to go out there and acquire someone reliable.

Names like Jean-Clair Todibo and Jarrad Branthwaite feel like the main targets, though there are issues surrounding both. The former is a Nice player, who also has ties to Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS. A deal will not be sanctioned by UEFA. The latter has an asking price that feels way too high for United’s budget.

The reliable Dean Jones has now thrown another name into the mix; Max Kilman.

The journalist states that United could consider a move to sign the 27-year-old Premier League defender this summer, if the aforementioned main targets aren’t available for one reason or another.

Wolves’ Kilman has been steady ever since breaking into their first-team several years ago – and this could be a smart piece of business.

He’s always available, good on the ball, solid defensively and an ever-improving player.

I guess the question then becomes about the asking price for Kilman. Wolves are not going to want to lose one of their key players so they will ask for a hefty transfer fee to allow the Englishman to leave.

With United dead-set on not overpaying this summer, Erik ten Hag may have to do without his main targets once again. I just wonder how far down the list the club may have to go in order to sign players who fit within their price range.
