Man United could save some money and sign Jarrad Branthwaite in a cut-price deal due to Everton’s financial woes.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock over the last few months, you’ll know all about Manchester United interest in signing Jarrad Branthwaite.
The Englishman has gone from strength to strength this term, even earning a first call-up to the senior Three Lions squad just last month.
Branthwaite is playing for an Everton side that are now looking likely to beat the dreaded drop, though the Toffees may not be able to hold onto one of their key stars for too much longer.
Everton have been in serious financial trouble this term, even being handed a points deduction as a result. Now, according to The Sun, it is being claimed that United ‘will exploit’ the club’s desperate need for cash.
In their headline, the article states that United could seal a ‘cut-price’ deal for Branthwaite, as Everton may need to cash in on the centre-half in order to beat another ‘financial rap’.
As things stand, Branthwaite has an £80m valuation, though that figure could be forced down due to Everton’s need to generate some funds in order to stay out of trouble.
Apparently, cashing in on Branthwaite before June 30th would ease Everton’s financial woes.
Although I am not a fan of this system, rules are rules and United should absolutely be looking to take advantage.
It feels pretty clear to me that Branthwaite is a top target, so why not sign him for a cheaper fee than his market value? It would still represent a large chunk of the transfer budget, but this guy could easily play centre-half at this club for the next decade.
