Man United will not be signing Sander Berge this summer, with the midfielder all set for a move elsewhere.

Manchester United Football Club are now pushing hard to bring in a new midfielder before the transfer deadline. The Red Devils have made some positive signings during this window, though I’d love to see a top-tier central player come through the door to cap off a quality summer.

Manuel Ugarte feels like the number one target, though Burnley’s Sander Berge represents a cheaper option and United definitely explored a move to sign the Norwegian.

However, it looks as though the Old Trafford club have left it too late, with Fabrizio Romano providing a big update on Berge’s future.

Romano has confirmed a United blow in pursuit of the 26-year-old midfielder, with the player now set to move to Fulham in a deal totalling £25m. Medical tests are booked and this deal is now set to proceed.

For United, this one is a double whammy. Not only will Berge not be joining, though it also likely ends Fulham’s pursuit of Scott McTominay, as they’ve now found their midfield signing.

Check out Fabrizio Romano’s X post on the news here:

I get that Berge is not a world-class player who we should be crying over losing, but he would have filled a need within the current squad – and at a very decent price, too.

I struggle to envisage Berge himself choosing Fulham over United, so that means the Reds haven’t backed up their interest with an official bid. That’s either due to a lack of funds, or the Old Trafford club not deeming Berge as good enough. I’d hope it’s the latter as that could mean a move to sign another defensive midfielder is in the works…
