Man United have two players in the latest WhoScored Team of the Week, following some quality individual performances vs Southampton.

Manchester United Football Club played their most complete performance of the season so far last time out against Southampton. The Red Devils eventually ran out 3-0 winners away on the South Coast.

After weathering an early storm, Erik ten Hag’s men took control of the match on the half-hour mark and they never looked back. Two quickfire goals from Matthijs de Ligt and Marcus Rashford set the Red Devils on their way to an important three points.

As a result, two United stars have been included in the latest WhoScored Team of the Week for their top class performances in that game.

Both Matthijs de Ligt (8.95) and Amad (8.10) were given the nod by WhoScored, with the former’s rating only bettered by Ipswich Town’s goalkeeper, Arijanet Muric (8.98).

Let’s start with De Ligt, who was rightly named Man of the Match for his display against Southampton. Not only did he score a lovely cushioned header to open the scoring, but he was defensively excellent throughout. Winning headers, putting his body on the line and making key interceptions.

Amad was undoubtedly United’s biggest threat. He plays with a directness, a flair and most importantly, purpose. The man from the Ivory Coast was consistently creating chances through sheer skill and belief. He more than deserves the praise that’s coming his way at the moment, including from talkSPORT’s Jason Cundy.

Both these guys are forming part of a United side that does look more effective than last term. Long may it continue.

Congratulations, lads.
