Man United are set to make another offer to sign Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton this summer.
Manchester United Football Club need to bring in at least one centre-back this summer. Maybe even a couple if the budget will stretch that far.
Raphael Varane has left. Victor Lindelof’s future is far from secure. Jonny Evans is another who may well depart.
The name most-linked with filling the void left by the French World Cup winner is Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite. The Englishman is currently away with the Three Lions on international duty.
BBC have provided a small snippet of information on that front, claiming United are ‘expected’ to make an improved bid to sign the player this summer. That comes after the Reds’ £35m offer for Branthwaite was rejected over the weekend.
It always felt like an initial offer from the Reds was going to be turned down, with United sending a low-ball offer, for a player who may well eventually end up costing double the £35m bid already made.
Branthwaite would be an astute piece of business if the Old Trafford club could somehow stump up the money to get this deal done, though I am still unsure whether United will cave into Everton’s demands.
It all comes down to how much money can be generated via player sales. The likes of Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho and even Casemiro could fetch in decent fees, while the club have already saved plenty of money in terms of weekly wages by letting some guys leave on free transfers.
In an ideal world, Branthwaite will be a United player when he returns from international duty.
