Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that PSG are now the frontrunners in the race to sign Man United-linked midfielder, Joao Neves.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for pretty much the last six months, you’ll know all about Manchester United’s interest in signing Joao Neves from Benfica.
The Old Trafford side have consistently been linked with a move to sign the Portugal teenager, who has gone from strength to strength over the last twelve months.
Although big money was always going to be needed to prise him away from Benfica this summer, it felt like a great investment to make due to his sheer skill and talent.
While United have been working on securing other signings like Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro, another club has swooped into pole position for Neves’ signature; PSG.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed the blow for United in an X post earlier today, claiming that the European giant are now ‘ready to advance’ in talks to sign Neves, after the player gives a ‘green light’ for a move to France.
PSG are now ahead in the race to sign Neves, while talks are taking place. It’s not a done deal as of yet, though negotiations are continuing.

I think we can all agree that it would be disappointing to lose out on Neves, though that’s just the nature of the situation. United always had limited money to spend this summer and so far, they’ve opted to strengthen other positions first.
I am not even sure there’s enough money left in the pot to buy Neves, even with possible sales still to happen…
While it would be sad to see him head to PSG, I’d like to think Neves will be available for transfer in future when he’s inevitably won everything there is to win over in France. For now, though, it looks as though the Neves dream is dead at least for a few years…
