Man United have apparently made their first effort to sign Joan Martinez from Real Madrid.
Manchester United have always excelled when signing younger players and nurturing their talents. Alejandro Garnacho is probably the best example of that in the current squad.
Erik ten Hag hasn’t shied away from continuing with these signings during his two-year tenure, with the Dutch gaffer eyeing another move to sign a top talent in the form of Joan Martinez.
It’s Diario AS with the story. They claim that United, along with Chelsea, ‘have already moved’ to sign the teenage sensation from European giant Real Madrid.
The Reds are taking an interest in Martinez’s ‘situation’, with the highly valued defender catching major attention.
As things stand, Real Madrid are not worried. In fact, there is ‘maximum calm’ in the Spanish capital in regard to Martinez. The player himself is still intent on remaining at the Santiago Bernabeu as he looks to emulate his idol, Sergio Ramos.
It does look like a deal will be tough to do during this window, though situations can change quickly. United managed to sign Alvaro Fernandez from Madrid in a similar scenario a few years ago, so this could be a move to keep an eye on in future.
For now, it does look like Martinez will stay put. Age just sixteen, time is on his side. However, the fact that United are keen on his services will be a morale boost for a player who will be hoping to make a push into the Madrid first-team sooner rather than later.
