Man United are now said to have held initial ‘exploratory’ talks over signing Raheem Sterling.

Over the last few days, talks about a potential move for Raheem Sterling have been increasing. The Englishman has been deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea, while the Blues hold an interest in signing Jadon Sancho. Understandably, a swap deal has been talked up.

Now, HITC have provided an intriguing update on that front, claiming United have now held ‘exploratory’ talks over signing the 29-year-old Sterling.

To complete a deal for Sancho, Chelsea would need to send at least one player to Old Trafford as part of the deal, with Sterling viewed as a possible option.

A deal to acquire Sterling is now being ‘assessed’ by the Reds, with Dan Ashworth weighing up what a move to sign the Englishman would look like. Initial talks have been held and the terms of any potential move are now being discussed.

Sterling will likely leave Stamford Bridge this summer after being completely frozen out by Chelsea, but I wonder if United is the ideal destination for the Englishman. Word on the street is that he’s a United fan, though his £300k+ a week wages could be problematic, particularly as he still has three years left on his Chelsea contract.

So far this summer, United have done well in not overspending on players’ wages. It’d be criminal to ruin that now with a late deal for Sterling.

Yes, he’s still a good player, though I’m not sure he starts regularly for United over the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford.

If I am Dan Ashworth, I’d be avoiding this one.
