Man United are in the race to sign Desire Doue, though winning his signature will not be easy.
Manchester United Football Club should get back to what they know – trusting younger players and giving them a platform to thrive at the highest level.
Erik ten Hag was more than willing to continue that mantra. Just ask Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho all about that.
It’d make sense for United to use their limited budget in talented teenagers, rather than buying the ready-made player which is a bigger gamble. A rumour over the last couple of days links Desire Doue with a potential Old Trafford move. It comes from the Daily Mail, who state the Reds are among the sides who have ‘asked’ about signing the midfielder.
United are certainly in the race to sign the mega-talented teen, though the competition will be fierce. Arsenal, Tottenham, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, PSG and Bayer Leverkusen are all credited with an interest in the Frenchman.
Doue, aged 18, has seen his stock rise over the last twelve months as his development continues. As a result, he will not come cheaply. The midfielder will cost over £35m if his current club, Rennes, agree to sell this summer.
That fee could easily rise as there’s a genuine possibility that a bidding war could happen over Doue, due to his immense talent.
This is where United may find it tough this summer. The Red Devils do not have Champions League football on the table. Other interested parties will be able to offer Doue that, if he does move on from Rennes this summer.
The one positive United have is the fact that they’re always willing to throw these younger players straight into the team from day one. I still firmly believe United is the best place in the world for developing the next generation.
