Man United still have eyes on Bayer Leverkusen’s versatile star, Jeremie Frimpong.
Manchester United certainly strengthened their playing squad drastically over the summer, though there is still much work ahead for Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff.
Preparation for next January and summer will already be underway, as the Dutch manager looks to completely overhaul the dressing room into one that fits his image.
One player who the Old Trafford still have eyes on is Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong. The Dutchman had an impressive 2023/24 season and he’s backing that up with a stunning start to the 2024/25 season, too.
Now, according to Football Insider, United remain ‘keen’ on signing the versatile 23-year-old, who can play at right-back or right-midfield. However, the Reds will face competition from Manchester City.
Frimpong contributed directly to 26 goals for the Bundesliga club last term, scoring 14 and assisting 12. The defender had a £35m release clause that was active in the summer just gone, though nobody decided to trigger that clause. The interest in Frimpong does still remain, though.
The fact that he can play in various positions is no doubt his biggest appeal. Let’s say Diogo Dalot is injured, Frimpong can slot in at right-back no problem. Or if Amad needs a rest, he can start over on the right-hand side of the attack.
In terms of fee, you’d assume he’d now cost more than the £35m that he was available for during the summer, with Bayer hoping to bump up that fee by a significant amount. The fact that there’s heavy interest in the Dutchman means that asking price could now rise pretty rapidly.
