Man United are making another effort to sign Frenkie de Jong from FC Barcelona this summer.
Manchester United are now being linked with Frenkie de Jong every single summer at this point. Erik ten Hag seems absolutely fixated on signing the FC Barcelona midfielder by hook or by crook.
The Dutch manager has consistently looked to surround himself with familiarity, with the pair working together at Ajax during a super successful run for the Netherlands’ biggest club side.
Now, Manchester World have once again detailed United interest in signing De Jong.
It’s stated that United ‘have approached’ Barcelona about the possibility of signing the 27-year-old midfielder this summer.
The player is deemed a ‘long-term’ target for Ten Hag, having tried to sign him in each of the last two transfer windows prior to this one.
With United once again looking to upgrade in midfield, De Jong’s name is a possible option.
The issue here is that De Jong himself never really fancied an Old Trafford move. I doubt that’s changed this summer, particularly as INEOS are now in charge and there’s a very high chance the Reds wouldn’t offer as lucrative of a wage package to the midfielder.
There can be no doubt that De Jong would be an unreal piece of business. He’d transform the midfield single-handedly, though I just don’t see it happening unless he’s physically forced out of the Nou Camp door.
Hopefully, United don’t waste too much time on this move as I find it very hard to envisage a scenario in which this transfer becomes a legitimate possibility.
