Here are our player ratings from the game as Man United beat Southampton in their fourth game of the season.
Andre Onana – Made a fantastic penalty save, which felt like the turning point in the match. His distribution was decent enough. 7/10
Noussair Mazraoui – Continues to look right at home in that United back line. Solid defensively and willing to get forward wherever possible. Excellent. 7/10
Matthijs de Ligt – Was beaten early by Walker-Peters, but after that point he was outstanding. Scored a fantastic header and made some vital clearances. Came off with a possible injury. 8/10
Lisandro Martinez – It was his positive play that helped create some first-half chances for United. As solid as ever defensively. Came off with a back issue. 7/10
Diogo Dalot – Shaky start but grew into the game as he started to get to grips with the tricky Dibling. 6/10
Christian Eriksen – Undoubtedly the surprise inclusion in the side but he did decently enough. Calm with the ball at feet and didn’t allow Southampton players too much space on the ball. 6/10
Kobbie Mainoo – Kept it neat and tidy, though was towing the line defensively after an early booking. 5/10
Bruno Fernandes – Grabbed a stellar assist for the De Ligt second. Worked hard and continues to show why he’s the heartbeat of the team. 7/10
Amad – Looked like United’s best threat for large periods, though I’d like to see him go at his man a bit more in those one-on-one scenarios. His final ball was sometimes lacking. 6/10
Marcus Rashford – Scored a sumptuous goal which was his first of the season. Drifted in and out of the game but it was nice to see him on the scoresheet. 7/10
Joshua Zirkzee – After a slow start he was heavily involved. His hold-up play was superb while he’s great at bringing others into the game. Solid. 7/10
Subs:
Alejandro Garnacho – On the receiving end of a dreadful Stephens tackle. Scored a goal to wrap it up. A sublime finish.
Manuel Ugarte – Nice to see him out there. Won the ball quickly a few times. A good start.
Harry Maguire – Booked after a minute for kicking the ball away.
Jonny Evans – Solid enough.
Casemiro – Brought on late to help see the game out.
