Man United are trying to sign Brian Brobbey from Ajax, though Arsenal are also keen on signing the Dutchman.

Manchester United are seemingly in the hunt to sign a new centre forward this summer, as the club looks to replace Anthony Martial’s minutes in the number nine position.

Last term, Rasmus Hojlund had to do it all on his own due to Martial’s injury absence. This time around, the Dane should have some much-needed help. Joshua Zirkzee has been the name most linked with filling the void, though another name has been added into the mix; Brian Brobbey.

The Sun on Sunday provided the latest information on the Brobbey front. They claim that United are set for a ‘£30million war’ with Arsenal over the signing of the Ajax striker.

Erik ten Hag will know Brobbey, 22, from their time together with the Eredivisie club, while Mikel Arteta believes he could be a good back-up option to Gabriel Jesus.

Brobbey is also attracting interest from Italian sides, though it is understood the player has his heart set on a Premier League move this summer.

The striker scored 21 goals across all competitions last season, while like Zirkzee, Brobbey is a part of the Netherlands’ European Championship squad. He is currently preparing to take on England in the semi-finals this Wednesday.

This would be a smart signing. I’d guess that it’s either Brobbey or Zirkzee for United this summer. Perhaps this is the Red Devils’ back-up option if their move for the Bologna man falls by the wayside.

Both will likely cost a similar fee, so it’s nice to see United doing their due diligence and having another possible signing in place.
