Man United appear to be closing in on the signature of Manuel Ugarte from PSG.

Manchester United have strengthened their back line, while also adding Joshua Zirkzee in attack. Naturally, transfer attention is now firmly fixated on signing a new midfielder, to help bolster the Reds’ ranks in a key area of the field.

The name most linked with filling that void is Manuel Ugarte, though any deal to sign the man from Uruguay, at least on a permanent transfer, felt directly linked to selling a player or two first…

It looks as though Scott McTominay is now set to depart, with the Scotland international being heavily linked with a move to join Napoli. Now, Fabrizio Romano believes as a result, the Reds are ‘set to close’ a deal to sign Ugarte on a permanent transfer.

Initially, there were some talks suggesting a loan move with an obligation to buy from PSG could happen due to limited resources, however, it looks like United are about to raise enough funds.

The player himself ‘only wants’ the Reds and he is now ‘ready to travel’ to sign the contract and undergo his United medical.

Check out Fabrizio Romano’s X post on the news here:

I’m not going to sit here and tell you that Ugarte is the best thing since sliced bread. However, I will state that United absolutely need some midfield reinforcements.

The 23-year-old can come in and allow Casemiro to rest, with that defensive midfield position looking somewhat vulnerable at the back end of last term. Ugarte will certainly help solidify in that area of the pitch.

Ugarte is a true defensive midfielder who loves doing the dirty work. Let’s hope this allows players like Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes to operate higher up the field.
