Man United still have eyes on signing Lille defender, Leny Yoro.
I don’t think it’s a secret to claim that Manchester United will sign at least one centre-half this summer. Raphael Varane has left and Jonny Evans may well follow. It’s an area of the field where the Reds had no consistency last season. That simply has to change.
Several names have been linked with filling the void left by Rapha. Perhaps Jarrad Branthwaite remains the number one target, though he’s an expensive option. During a summer where money may be tight, the Old Trafford club could look at some cheaper alternatives.
Leny Yoro is another name under consideration by the Reds. The Athletic have provided an update on that front, via their Transfer DealSheet.
According to the story, the 18-year-old defender is ‘rated highly’ by United ahead of the official opening of the summer window on Friday. The Reds remain interested in signing the Lille man, though they will not have it all their own way.
As things stand, Real Madrid are still the favourites to acquire the Frenchman, while reports of a £50m bid from United have been played down in Spain.
Yoro may well be sold this summer due to his contract situation. His current deal expires at the end of next season, leaving Lille with a big decision to make over the next few months.
There can be no doubt that this would be a super piece of business if United could somehow leapfrog Madrid in the chase, though obviously, that’s not going to be easy. They’re the current European champions after all…
