Man United are not giving up their pursuit of FC Barcelona midfielder, Frenkie de Jong.
Manchester United Football Club have made plenty of signings under Erik ten Hag. Some has been roaring successes, others have failed to hit the ground running.
With pressure mounting on the Dutchman, results need to turn around quickly or the former Ajax man will find himself out of a job.
Well, it seems as if the gaffer is still planning to be in charge for at least the foreseeable future, with a move for Frenkie de Jong once again being talked up by the media.
It’s Sport with the claim, as they state that United are still not giving up hope on signing the 27-year-old.
It’s written that Ten Hag must make a ‘change of direction’ and the name that attracts him most is De Jong’s. A move for the Dutchman has been an ‘old dream’ ever since the gaffer arrived at Old Trafford, though the player has never really given any indication that he’d be open to the switch.
United want to get back in the hunt to sign De Jong during the winter transfer market, due to the fact that De Jong has only played 24 minutes this term after overcoming injury.
Ten Hag knows De Jong well from their time together at Ajax, with the manager keen on making a reunion happen.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge De Jong fan, but at what point does enough become enough? It feels like Ten Hag is totally hung up on signing this one player, who hasn’t really ever given any indicators to suggest he’d be open to joining…
There’s also a money issue. Unless United are planning to make a major sale or two, I’m not sure the club have the funds to bring in De Jong in the mid-season window.
