Man United are still in discussions over possible signing Sander Berge from Burnley this summer.

Manchester United have reinforced their defence. Leny Yoro, Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt are all here.

Next up, the Old Trafford club have to address the midfield. It’s an area of the pitch that was hit and miss last term, though it improved significantly when Kobbie Mainoo made his big breakthrough. It’d be unfair to leave the teenager to do it all on his own. He needs help.

Several names have been linked with filling the void. Recently, Sander Berge’s name has been hitting the back pages more than most. United’s interest in the man from Norway seems genuine.

Now, The Athletic have provided a small update on that front. They claim that United talks over potentially signing the 26-year-old midfielder are set to ‘continue’.

However, Burnley’s asking price could become an issue. Their anticipated demands, which are believed to be above £20m, could become an issue for the Red Devils.

Berge was interestingly left out of Burnley’s opening day game against Luton Town over the weekend, with their manager, Scott Parker, claiming he has a small injury… I suspect there’s probably more to it than that. The Athletic believe he was left out in order to guard against potential injury, ensuring he does get his wish to move on if their asking price is met.

Berge has always been talked about as a potential elite-level player. He never really lived up to that hype, largely due to injury and the fact he plays in a rather weak team.

If United can stump up the money required to sign Berge, this could be a possible masterstroke by Ten Hag and Dan Ashworth.
