Talks between Man United and the agent of Joshua Zirkzee are ongoing.

Manchester United football Club need to bring in a striker of some description this summer, in order to ease the goal-scoring burden on Rasmus Hojlund’s shoulders.

Several names have been linked with joining the Old Trafford club, though none more so than Joshua Zirkzee. The Dutch striker is currently away at the European Championship with Holland.

Currently plying his trade for Bologna, Zirkzee scored 12 goals for the Serie A club last season, helping his team to a fifth-place finish in the league table.

Now, Sky Sports News have provided an update on that front, claiming that United’s talks to sign the player are ‘progressing’, as the Reds look to make their first singing of the window.

United will remain in discussions with Zirkzee’s representatives, as they look to come to some sort of agreement over the transfer.

Check out Sky Sports News’ X post on the Zirkzee latest here:

With Anthony Martial now a thing of the past, Hojlund is the only senior striker on the books right now. He’s a young man who is already carrying the brunt of the goalscoring burden on his back. He needs help.

Zirkzee strikes me as the perfect complement to someone like Hojlund. Their games are different, giving Ten Hag a completely fresh option if he needs to switch things up.

With a release clause of around £34m, this has the potential to be an astute piece of business if personal terms can be agreed.

Sky Sports also adds that initial talks to sign Manuel Ugarte remain ongoing.
