Man United optimism over signing Manuel Ugarte is beginning to grow, as talks with PSG are now progressing.
Manchester United have strengthened their defence. They’ve also added another forward to ease the goalscoring burden on Rasmus Hojlund. Attention now turns to bringing in a midfielder.
Casemiro is the sole defensive midfielder on the books. He needs help, particularly at this stage in his career. A mobile, defensive-minded central player could single-handedly change the fortunes of the Old Trafford side in the middle of the park.
Manuel Ugarte has often been talked up as a potential target over the last few weeks. The man from Uruguay has been deemed surplus to requirements by PSG, though they asking price remains above £50m.
With money tight for United, that could be an issue. However, Dharmesh Sheth has provided an encouraging update, claiming that United and PSG talks over the midfielder are now ‘advancing’.
There is now a belief that a deal can happen before the deadline and although a permanent deal is the preference for both parties, a loan with an obligation to buy hasn’t been ruled out.

This leads me to believe that both sides want a deal to happen, though money could be an issue for United. Perhaps PSG will be willing to knock a few million off the asking price as the transfer window wears on, but if not, a short-term deal is a possibility.
Ugarte seems keen on a move away from Paris, too, so it could be contingent on the 23-year-old pushing from his end.
With a little under two weeks left in the window, United will have to act quickly.
