Man United could look to secure the signature of Dutchman, Xavi Simons, on a loan deal.

Manchester United Football Club appear to be closing in on their first signing of the summer, in the form of Joshua Zirkzee.

However, more will surely follow if the Old Trafford side are serious about challenging for major honours this coming season. Erik ten Hag has displayed a preference to acquire Dutch players and over the last 24 hours, the Red Devils have been linked with another one; Xavi Simons.

It’s The Mirror with the claim. They state that United are ‘weighing up’ a move to sign the 21-year-old attacking midfielder on loan, with an obligation to buy.

With deals to sign the Netherlands duo of Joshua Zirkzee and Matthijs de Ligt in place, Ten Hag is now looking at their international teammate Simons.

Simons, who scored against England on Wednesday, is a PSG player, though he spent last season on loan at RB Leipzig.

The Ligue 1 club are ready to let Simons leave on loan with an obligation to buy, which is a deal that would suit the Old Trafford club due to their limited resources.

The verdict

Simons is an exciting talent whose best years are ahead of him. However, while Bruno Fernandes remains at the club, I’m not quite sure where he’d fit into the starting line-up.

This move could hint that the club feel Bruno’s days are numbered, which in itself would be majorly concerning as he’s by far and away our best player.

In terms of replacements, United could do worse than Simons. For now, though, I’d much prefer to see Bruno stay at the club.
