Last season, Manchester United, on Erik ten Hag’s instructions acquired Sofyan Amrabat on loan to act as a backup for Casemiro but the move did not go as planned.

Due to injuries at left-back, the Morrocan was forced to play there initially while due to arriving on the back of not having a proper pre-season, the Fiorentina star struggled whenever given the chance to play in his preferred position.

The 27-year-old looked like the pace of the Premier League was proving to be too overwhelming to handle and there seemed very little chance of United triggering the buy option in his loan agreement.

However, a strong end to the season including an FA Cup final masterclass meant chances of earning a longer stay at the club increased with plenty of fans calling for the club to sign him permanently.

Amrabat’s future

The 20-time English league champions were reportedly open to an arrangement but not for the price that was pre-agreed, which was €20 million plus €5 million in add-ons. That offer expired in June when Amrabat’s loan deal ended.

Now, the Old Trafford side were looking at completing a deal for only €15 million but Teamtalk has relayed that the club might not even pay that price.

As previously relayed by The Peoples Person, considering the amount of reinforcements required all across the pitch coupled with a relatively meagre budget, the club was mulling over entering the loan market again for midfield reinforcements.

And Dan Ashworth, the new sporting director, is eyeing another one-year temporary arrangement for the Qatar World Cup hero. Fiorentina have the Morocco international on their books until 2026 as per Radio Bruno and that is why the Italian side could entertain another loan arrangement.

Another loan?

“We understand that their new sporting director Ashworth has already ruled out triggering the buy option. However, reports from Italy suggest that Ashworth is exploring the idea of bringing Amrabat back to Old Trafford on another season-long loan.

“Amrabat extended his contract with Fiorentina until 2026 before he joined Man Utd last season and Radio Bruno claim that’s why the Italian side could entertain another loan deal. The 27-year-old ‘dreams’ of returning to Old Trafford for another campaign and he isn’t in Fiorentina’s plans for the future.”

Amrabat knows what his manager wants from him and with a proper pre-season, it would not be the worst idea to bring back the defensive midfielder.

Casemiro is on the verge of being sold despite Ten Hag’s wishes and the team needs quality in the middle of the park ahead of the new season.

Manuel Ugarte of Paris Saint-Germain has been linked with a move and INEOS now have to decide whether the club will go for him or choose to bring back Amrabat.
