Manchester United’s summer plans are set to swing into action in the coming weeks with INEOS looking to provide Erik ten Hag with some fresh faces ahead of the new season.
United’s need for additional quality across the first team squad is clear, after registering the club’s lowest-ever Premier League finish last time out.
Midfield reinforcements are high on the priority list for Ten Hag with his team far too easy to play through last season.
Paris Saint-Germain star Manuel Ugarte has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford but United will have to fend off stiff competition to secure his signature.
According to Footballtransfers, German giants Bayern Munich have entered the race to snap up the Uruguayan international.
Vincent Kompany has reportedly earmarked Ugarte as a key target this summer as he attempts to wrestle back the Bundesliga title from Bayer Leverkusen.
The 23-year-old has emerged has one of the finest holding midfielders in Europe and his presence in United’s engine room would allow Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes the freedom to flourish.
Ugarte starred for PSG last season, making 37 appearances at the Parc des Princes after joining from Sporting Lisbon at the start of the campaign.
He is currently away on international duty and has started all three group games with Uruguay topping their group in the Copa America.
Ugarte would reportedly “love” to join United and Ten Hag will be hoping that his wish will swing the deal in United’s favour.
The Peoples Person recently relayed that PSG will not settle for anything less than £50 million to part with their man.
With INEOS working under financial constraints, the new minority owners will be looking for the most economically-viable deals in the market.
However, with Bayern’s interest now public, they will have to act fast if they are to acquire Ugarte and will hope to agree a fee as quickly as possible for the in-demand talent.
