Man United could replace Erik ten Hag with former Juventus boss, Massimiliano Allegri.
Manchester United Football Club could soon have a big decision to make. Erik ten Hag saved his job by winning the FA Cup back in May, though the pressure is building on the Dutchman after a poor start to the season.
CaughtOffside now believe that a certain Italian, Massimiliano Allegri, is a possible option for the Old Trafford side if Ten Hag continues to struggle.
It’s worth noting that CaughtOffside published this story before United were decimated 3-0 at home to Tottenham Hotspur yesterday…
They state that the 57-year-old manager is ‘being considered’ as a possible replacement for the Dutchman, with sources close to the United situation claiming that they want to see improved results from Ten Hag, or he could face the sack.
No concrete talks with Allegri have taken place at this point, though the Italian’s impressive CV does leave United intrigued. He is currently out of work after being let go by Juventus at the end of last season.
There’s no doubt that the recent thumping by Spurs makes the managerial situation even more precarious. Unhappiness among the fans is quickly growing, while there’s only so much more of this the supporters will tolerate before they start calling for Ten Hag’s head.
The question is, would Allegri be a wise replacement? It’s certainly a fresh start with a completely different style of play, though hitting the reset button would effectively set the Reds back to square one and Allegri would need time to implement his style of play.
It’s also worth noting that Ten Hag isn’t an INEOS appointment, so it would make it a little easier for them to relieve the ex-Ajax man of his duties.
