The start of October brings in a number of changes to our Top 10, thanks to some top games last weekend. Two of the results that caught my eye were Millersville Penn Manor (Pa.) beating Emmaus (Pa.) 4-3, and Summit Oak Noll (N.J.) beating Camden Catholic (N.J.) 1-0. What I find interesting is that these teams could meet again in their respective state tournaments — Emmaus and Penn Manor in PIAA Class AAA, and Camden Catholic and Oak Knoll in the NJSIAA Non-Public ranks.

(Oh, and you’ll love this: Camden Catholic and Oak Knoll are scheduled to meet again this Saturday, which should make for interesting doings.)

Teams are also bracing for a number of confrontational games in the coming weeks, including the county tournament season in New Jersey, and a looming Oct. 12 showdown between No. 1 Pottstown Hill School (Pa.) and No. 3 Malvern Villa Maria (Pa.).

Our RightToRightIsRight.com honorary No. 11 Team of the Week is Homer (N.Y.) Central. A couple of weeks ago, Ava Armstrong’s second-half goal have the Trojans a 1-0 win over longtime power Cazenovia (N.Y.). It was estimated that it has been at least a decade and a half since Homer got a result against their league rival.

“This was a really big win for us,” head coach Brooke Head tells The Syracuse Post-Standard. “This is a pivotal moment for Homer field hockey. We’re pretty pumped and excited. I’d have to check (the record books), but it’s been a very long time since (Homer beat Cazenovia).”
