Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Canada international Simi Awujo on a three-year deal.

Earlier this month, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United were in advanced talks to add Awujo to Marc Skinner’s ranks ahead of the upcoming Women’s Super League season.

United relay that Awujo’s signing is subject to registration.

The 20-year-old midfielder joins the Reds from the United States collegiate system, where she represented the University of Southern California’s USC Trojans.

She made her senior international debut for Canada at just 18 years old and has mustered 19 caps for her country to date.

Awujo played a key role for Canada as they reached the quarter-final of this summer’s Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Reacting to her move, Awujo said, “To say that I’m a professional footballer for Manchester United is insane.”

“I’m so excited for the season ahead, what the future holds here and just to be a Red Devil. I cannot wait to play in front of the great Manchester United fans.”

Skinner remarked, “Simi is an exciting young talent who we are delighted has chosen to continue her football journey with us here at Manchester United.”

“Our wonderful fans can expect a midfielder with international pedigree, who will only develop further in our competitive English game.”

Awujo represents United’s fifth signing after the arrivals of Dutch defender Dominique Janssen, French forward Melvine Malard, Norwegian striker Elisabeth Terland and Swedish defender Anna Sandberg.

United will kickstart their 2024/25 WSL campaign underway against West Ham at Old Trafford on Saturday, September 22.
