Owen Hargreaves believes Manuel Ugarte could make a real difference for Man United.
Manchester United have looked far from solid in the opening few games of the season. Sadly, the same old problems are persisting with the Old Trafford side under Erik ten Hag.
Casemiro appears to be the weakness in the team right now. He’s often isolated in that defensive midfield position – a spot that he’s not necessarily used to playing, particularly in games against elite sides like Liverpool. His struggles in that area often come to light.
However, the club could have a fix for that just around the corner in the form of Manuel Ugarte.
The man from Uruguay will need time to settle into his new surroundings, though one former Red in the form of Owen Hargreaves is clearly excited to see the 23-year-old in action.
Hargreaves was full of praise for the ‘unreal’ new signing who is excellent out of position. Ugarte was also labelled a ‘walking tackle’ by the Englishman.
Check out what Owen Hargreaves had to say in full here:
“The manager has got to say, right, I have got Casemiro there, he’s one of our best players, he’s on a big contract. I have got to put somebody around him to help him, and I will tell you who might be that guy – Ugarte.” Hargreaves said on the FIVE YouTube channel.
“That kid is unreal out of position. He’s a walking tackle, so maybe that’s a good little fit, you know, play a little double six and play Ugarte and Casemiro for a little bit to keep the solidity a little bit, play Bruno as a number 10.”
I am keen to see Ugarte in action, though I’m already somewhat concerned about how much pressure is on his shoulders before he’s even barely had the chance to train with his new teammates.
It’s worth noting that Ugarte has had no pre-season whatsoever at this stage. He hasn’t played since featuring in the Copa America back in mid-July. We have to temper expectations and I’d be highly surprised if he’s in the starting line-up for the game against Southampton on September 14th.
