Brandon Ingram’s offseason pursuit of a maximum-salary extension, potentially worth $208MM over four years, has not aligned with the Pelicans’ willingness to offer closer to $40MM annually, reports Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.

Trade talks involving Ingram were also explored, with the Kings initially interested before acquiring DeMar DeRozan and the Jazz holding only preliminary discussions. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers declined a potential deal involving Ingram and Jarrett Allen.

While scouts have speculated about a possible return to the Lakers, Fischer notes Los Angeles is focused on adding frontcourt depth and perimeter defense rather than pursuing Ingram.

With no team currently eager to offer a max contract, Ingram and Klutch Sports may consider shorter-term deals similar to Fred VanVleet’s three-year contract with Houston.

The Pelicans could still negotiate a new deal with Ingram but have set clear financial limits on what they’re willing to pay, leaving his future uncertain.
