The Saquon Barkley saga gripped the NFL over the past two years before it finally reached a conclusion in March when the superstar running back left the New York Giants for their hated rival, the Philadelphia Eagles.
Currently, that transition is the primary focus on HBO’s “Hard Knocks: Offseason with the New York Giants,” which airs every Tuesday night.
A sidebar to that story is how the Giants and general manager Joe Schoen discussed Barkley behind closed doors and evaluated his potential replacements. They ultimately settled on veteran Devin Singletary, who has posted very similar numbers to Barkley throughout his NFL career.
Singletary will be joined in the backfield by Eric Gray, rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr., and several others. Come Week 1, a trio of those backs is likely to handle the duties in a committee with Singletary being the lead dog.
With training camp looming, here’s a quick look at the 2023 Pro Football Focus grades for all anticipated starting running backs in 2024, including Singletary for the Giants.
