Chelsea are set for a windfall after Real Madrid’s progression to the Champions League final triggered a clause in the 2019 transfer agreement for Eden Hazard.
Even though the Belgian retired last year, the Premier League club will receive a £5-million bonus that was included in his transfer to Real Madrid, according to The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath and Matt Law. Madrid’s victory over Bayern Munich in the semifinals triggered the clause.
Hazard joined Madrid for £130 million plus £40 million in add-ons almost five years ago but struggled to live up to expectations during his time in the Spanish capital.
After starring at Chelsea from 2012-19, Hazard only appeared in 54 games for Real Madrid before retiring last October at the age of 32.
