Bayern Munich’s search for a new manager hit another roadblock Monday.
Crystal Palace informed the German club it would take €100 million for them to part ways with current boss Oliver Glasner, The Athletic’s Matt Woosnam and Sebastian Stafford-Bloor report.
Bayern were reportedly prepared to pay €18 million.
Thomas Tuchel, who agreed to step down as manager at the end of the season, could now be asked to stay on, according to Bild’s Christian Falk.
Bayern have struggled to fill the impending void. Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso, Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann, and Austria boss Ralf Rangnick all preferred to stay in their current roles, and Glasner reportedly accepted the reasons behind Palace’s strong stance.
Glasner only joined Palace in February, signing a two-and-a-half-year contract after leaving Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer. In the 13 matches he’s coached, Palace have amassed the fourth-best Premier League record, powered by notable wins over Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Manchester United.
Under Tuchel, Bayern relinquished their 11-year hold on the Bundesliga to Bayer Leverkusen and lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League semifinals. The Bavarians were also eliminated in the second round of the German Cup by third-tier FC Saarbrucken.
