Ryan Garcia says Terence Crawford is an “overhyped” fighter who is “boring” and “wasting everybody’s money” because he’s “not entertaining.”
Fans Mistaken About Crawford’s Style
Fans who haven’t watched Crawford’s fights throughout his 16-year career mistakenly thought that the way he fought the null-and-void version of Errol Spence last year was how he always fights.
Crawford does not normally fight like that. The only reason he was letting his hands go in that way was that Spence was like a zombie that had emerged from the crypt after being revived. Normally, Crawford boxes his opponents, changing stances needlessly and moving around the ring.
Garcia dares Crawford, 36, to face him in the ring if he believes he’s talking mess. That’s not likely to happen because Crawford only wants a fight against Canelo Alvarez and no one else. Whether he would change his mind if the money were good for a fight against Ryan is unknown.
Crawford is not in the same league as the 26-year-old Ryan regarding ratings and bringing in PPV buys. We just saw that clearly with Crawford’s fight against Israil Madrimov reportedly bringing poor numbers on PPV and not selling out the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.
Garcia is telling no lies. Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) isn’t an entertaining fighter and never has been unless you’re a fan of watching pure boxing.
Ryan Dismisses Crawford’s Career
The superstar Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) feels Crawford hasn’t beaten anyone during his 16-year career other than the car crash-wrecked Errol Spence.
“Terence Crawford really hasn’t beat anybody other than Errol Spence, who went through a car crash. Name 1 guy he beat other than Spence that’s well known! Crawford ain’t like that,” said Ryan Garcia to the Say Cheese YouTube channel about Terence Crawford.
“He’s an overhyped bum. You’re wasting everybody’s money, and you’re not entertaining; you’re boring. Come see me in the ring if you think I’m talking [stuff],” said Ryan.
Crawford likely isn’t going to take Ryan up on his offer unless His Excellency offers him the kind of money that he expects to get for a fight against Canelo. Ryan would bring in all the PPV buys for a fight against Crawford, and the Nebraska native would only need to sit back.
“He looked like he was on his way to become the new Mayweather. I knew what I was in there for. I knew what my purpose was,” said Ryan about his win over Devin Haney last April. “I had a belief in myself, and nobody is going to take that away from me.”
People made a mistake, thinking Haney was going to beat Ryan, because he hadn’t looked good in his fight against Vasily Lomachenko.
“I’m a great boxer. I’ve only lost the Gervonta fight. So, they [Team Haney] were kind of underestimating me.
“I know I’m the most googled fighter in the last three months,” said Ryan Garcia when asked if he’s the Face of Boxing. “There’s three of us. Me, Gervonta and Canelo that everybody is going to tune in. I think it’s more so me and Gervonta.
“I feel like I’m putting in more work to be the Face of Boxing. In this day and age on social media, you got to put in the work. You got to do interviews. You got to be there for the people,” said Ryan.
