Emma Schieck powered the United States to a sweeping 3-0 (25-5, 25-1, 25-5) win over hosts France, with eight aces that shattered the French defence in women’s sitting volleyball at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games in North Paris Arena on Saturday.
Schieck scored 11 points, including a perfect 3-for-3 in attacks. Heather Erickson and Monique Matthews each added 10 points to USA winning performance. Despite the efforts of France captain Jenna Agbodjan Prince, who led her team with three attack points.
After a brief 4-4 deadlock in the opening set, USA took control with Whitney Dosty and Alexis Shifflett-Patterson leading the charge. France managed to score their fifth point when USA committed an error on the attack during a rally, momentarily breaking the USA momentum. However, this was the last point France would score in the set, as USA quickly regrouped and capitalized on multiple errors on the French side to win 25-5.
France managed to score their only point in the second set due to a service blunder by USA early in the game. However, their North American rivals quickly regained control with an outstanding performance from Schieck, who had several service winners, and strong offence from Lora Webster and Matthews. USA’s consistent pressure led to a 25-1 victory.
Not much has changed in the third set as USA continued show their top form. USA capitalised on numerous errors from the hosts and well-placed serves with Schieck leading the offence. Despite France’s brief resistance, USA controlled the set from start to finish, sealing victory at 25-5 to complete the sweep.
