Scott McTominay could now have played his last game for Man United, according to Fabrizio Romano.

It’s common knowledge that Manchester United are still trying to secure a deal to bring in a new midfielder during this window. Casemiro certainly needs some help in that defensive midfield position, as his legs are now starting to desert him.

Manuel Ugarte continues to be the name most linked with filling that void, though United may have to make one more major sale before they can sanction a deal to bring in the man from Uruguay.

Perhaps it’s Scott McTominay who could depart, with the Scotland international garnering heavy interest all summer.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on that front, claiming that the United star ‘could’ have played his last game for United, amid transfer interest from Napoli. As things stand, the two clubs are around £4m apart in terms of transfer fee.

Napoli have offered around £21.4m, while United are holding out for a fee somewhere closer to the £25.5m mark at this moment in time.

No doubt the two sides are working hard to try and find some middle-ground, for a man who scored ten goals for United last season.

While it would be sad to see academy graduate McTominay leave, it’s a transfer that has to happen if United are serious about continuing to move forward. I do not envisage a scenario in which United can win a title with McTominay being a regular starter. I just don’t think he’s good enough.

Hopefully, a deal can be agreed soon, with United then allowed to re-invest that money into the squad instantly.
