One of the things that makes the Internet in terms of journalism is the ability to go back and try (as best we can) to make things right if need be.
In recent days, we were made aware of a necessary adjustment in our lacrosse statistics, one which involved an outstanding player from Canton, Mich. Because of a lack of newspaper coverage in her area, we didn’t get any information about Mileena Cotter’s record-breaking 215-goal season.
Cotter is an interesting story. She has been a dominant scorer for Canton Salem (Mich.) and goes to the mid-Atlantic during the summer, living out of a hotel room near Baltimore in order to travel to tournaments with her team, the Skywalkers.
In her varsity career, she was incredible, scoring upwards of 16, 17, even 19 goals in a game by herself. Even when other teams knew what was coming, there was nothing they could do to stop her.
Cotter was able to score her career total of 472 goals in a mere 49 games, having lost her entire freshman season to the global pandemic.
Now, there’s another adjustment we’re having to make, and it surrounds field hockey player Jordyn Hollamon. She finished the week last week with 178 goals and 103 assists. But these statistics are for a career which started back in eighth grade for her, which means that there needs to be two sets of numbers for her, similar to what we do for Chantae Miller, who made varsity for Williamsville (N.Y.) North in seventh grade.
So, why do we keep track of both sets of stats? We think it’s a good thing to provide and publicize a number which will be picked up by the National Federation of State High School Associations. In addition, it gives an opportunity to give the player two milestones when it comes to the 100-100 mark — one for a five-year overall career, and one for a four-year career:

So, yes, Hollamon is on the verge of even more history with a number of consequential games remaining. Those tales are yet to be written.
