Sir Alex Ferguson wants Mauricio Pochettino to be the next Man United boss, if the Reds choose to sack Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United are yet to make their mind up on Erik ten Hag, which in itself is a mistake. The longer this saga drags on, the worse it becomes for the whole club.
In terms of replacements, several names have been linked with filling the position. From Gareth Southgate, to Roberto de Zerbi, with a little Mauricio Pochettino sprinkled in for good measure.
The Argentine, who always seems to be mentioned when United change their manager, is back in the headlines again, this time via HITC. According to their Graeme Bailey, even Sir Alex Ferguson is pushing for the 52-year-old to become the next United boss.
Fergie is said to be ‘very close’ with the ex-Spurs and Chelsea manager, who was a candidate to take charge when Ten Hag was hired in 2022.
Pochettino is said to be of ‘some interest’ to United, while sources close to the boss have told HITC that he is ready to get straight back into management.
In terms of stylistic fit, this would feel like a good hire. Pochettino loves promoting young players and United have talented teenagers in abundance. He also plays an exciting brand of football which the Old Trafford faithful would love.
It’s a finely balanced scenario. First and foremost, the club have to sort out what they’re doing with Ten Hag, but sooner rather than later as these manager’s will start to be picked up by other sides in the not too distant future.
In my opinion, I’d give Ten Hag the final year of his contract and see what happens before making a decision on his future. His FA Cup final win should be just about enough to save his job.
