Following the completion of the SA Hockey IPT, South African Hockey has announced a 34-player squad for the SA Women’s Hockey Squad. It’s the first step in the new phase of the national team.
It’s the first squad announcement following the retirements of Dirkie Chamberlain, Erin Christie and Tarryn Lombard is unavailable for selection.
Paris Olympians Aphiwe Dimba, Antonet Louw, Edith Molikoe, Hannah Pearce, Kayla de Waal, Kayla Swarts, Kristen Paton, Ntsopa Mokoena, Ongi Mali, Thati Zulu, Paris-Gail Isaacs, Quanita Bobbs, Stephanie Botha, and Quanita Bobbs are all retained.
A few players that have been involved in recent years have been included with the likes of Tegan Fourie, Jean Leigh du Toit, Hanrie Louw and Marlise van Tonder all looking for the opportunity to continue their international careers. There has also been a recall for Tokyo Olympians Charne Maddocks and Lerato Mahole.
Several Players will also be hopeful of earning their first test cap including Ane Janse van Vuuren, Tamlyn Kock, Izaiah April and Maikemisetso Marokoane. While Grace Cochrane, Marguerite van Wyk and Daniella de Oliveira will be hoping to become double nationals having represented the country in another format already.
