Man United are considering Thomas Tuchel as a potential option, should they decide to relieve Erik ten Hag of his duties.
At this point, I think it’s fair to say that Erik ten Hag’s job is far from secure. The Dutchman has struggled this season. His tactics have come into question, while the results haven’t been anywhere near good enough.
With INEOS now in charge, there’s a chance that Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to bring in a manager of his choosing. No doubt the result in the FA Cup final could have a big say in whether Ten Hag remains in charge or not. At the very least, the current gaffer should remain in the seat until the end of the season at the very least.
However, The Times believe that United are already looking at potential candidates to replace Ten Hag, should the club decide to move in a different direction.
Apparently, United are eyeing 50-year-old manager, Thomas Tuchel, as a possible option. The German, who is current manager of Bayern Munich, is said to be on a list of numerous options.
First and foremost, United have to make a decision about Ten Hag, though it does make sense to weigh up the potential candidates first. If there’s a better manager out there who is readily available, it would be foolish to not look at bringing that person in.
Is Tuchel infinitely better than Ten Hag? I personally am not convinced. I like the German, I think he’s done some decent jobs, but I don’t think he’s an elite level coach.
To me, this feels like a sideways step. I’d prefer we stuck with Ten Hag if these are the only two options we’re currently considering.
