Tilman Fertitta, the billionaire owner of the Houston Rockets, is reportedly set to be named the next U.S. ambassador to Italy by President-elect Donald Trump.

The news was first reported by Bloomberg journalist Jennifer Jacobs, who cited sources familiar with the decision.

Fertitta, a prominent business figure, is the CEO of Landry’s, a hospitality empire that spans restaurants, hotels, and casinos. He is also known for his role as the star of the reality TV show Billion Dollar Buyer, which highlighted his business acumen and negotiation skills.

If confirmed, Fertitta would succeed the current U.S. ambassador to Italy and represent American interests in Rome. His nomination would mark a significant transition from the business world to international diplomacy.

Fertitta purchased the Houston Rockets in 2017 for a then-record $2.2 billion. Under his ownership, the team has remained a key player in the NBA, and Fertitta’s leadership in professional sports has complemented his business portfolio.

Trump’s reported decision to select Fertitta aligns with his history of appointing business leaders and allies to high-profile diplomatic roles. Fertitta has been a vocal supporter of Trump’s policies and has attended events at Mar-a-Lago, further solidifying his relationship with the President-elect.
