Trevor Crabb left no doubt Sunday that he is an AVP Manhattan Beach Open legend.

Crabb won the event for the fourth time and helped partner Theo Brunner get his first MBO title.

Olympians Kristen Nuss and Taryn Kloth also won MBO for the first time.

Crabb and Brunner beat last year’s champion, Taylor Crabb (Trevor’s brother) and Taylor Sander in the semifinals, 21-18, 19-21, 15-11. In the other semifinal, Olympians Andy Benesh and Miles Partain defeated Olympians Chase Budinger and Miles Evans 24-26, 24-22, 15-10.

Crabb-Brunner won the final 21-18, 21-18.

Nuss and Kloth beat last year’s champion, Betsi Flint and Julia Scoles, 18-21, 21-17, 15-9.  TKN advanced with a 21-17, 21-14 semifinals victory over Toni Rodriguez and Geena Urango. Nuss and Kloth were LSU teammates with Rodriguez.

Flint and Scoles, coached by VolleyballMag’s Travis Mewhirter, beat Olympians Kelly Cheng and Sara Hughes in the semifinals 21-17, 17-21, 15-11.

Both winning pairs split $30,000. The second-place teams split $21,000.

The next AVP event is the Chicago Open August 30-September 1.

We’ll have an MBO photo gallery on Tuesday.
