Trey Murphy III has reached an agreement with the New Orleans Pelicans on a substantial four-year contract extension worth $112 million.
Notably, Murphy’s new deal does not include any performance incentives or player options, indicating the team’s strong commitment to him.
Selected as the 17th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft out of the University of Virginia, Murphy has quickly emerged as one of the league’s most promising young wings.
Last season, he showcased his shooting prowess by hitting 38.0 percent of his three-point attempts, averaging 7.81 attempts per game.
Throughout the season, he recorded impressive statistics, averaging 14.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in approximately 29.7 minutes per game for the Pelicans.
With the potential departure of Brandon Ingram raising questions about the team’s future, Murphy is anticipated to assume a more prominent role in the Pelicans’ offense moving forward.
His ability to stretch the floor and contribute on both ends of the court will be vital as the Pelicans navigate their roster changes and aim for success in the upcoming season.
The extension solidifies Murphy’s position within the organization, emphasizing the Pelicans’ confidence in his abilities and their plans for his continued development as a key player.
