Tyrell Malacia continues to move forward in his injury rehabilitation, with the left-back joining in on some first-team drills.

Manchester United fans haven’t seen Tyrell Malacia for eighteen months. It’s incredible to think that the Dutchman has missed a whole campaign of football and then some.

However, slowly but surely, the former Feyenoord man is edging ever closer to being welcomed back into the first-team fold.

Yesterday, another leap forward was made. The club website confirmed that the 25-year-old United defender is now ‘stepping up his comeback’ once again, as he took part in the first-team warmup session at Carrington yesterday.

The Netherlands international was applauded out onto the field by his teammates, as Malacia took part in the first-team rondos before continuing on with his individual training plan.

As expected, Malacia continues to be eased back into proceedings and I still believe it’ll be at least a couple of months before he’s back in the match-day squad. I do personally think we’ll see him before the turn of the year, hence, his inclusion in the Europa League squad.

Honestly, his return cannot come soon enough as it offers the club far more depth and flexibility in that left-back position that has turned into a real problem area. Luke Shaw always picks up minor injuries and if Malacia can return to the levels he was producing pre-injury, then he has a great chance at making that position in his side his own over the coming months.

We fans have to remain patient with Malacia, who probably won’t return to his highest levels for multiple months. I’d be surprised if we see him get back to his best this season, if I’m completely honest.
