Carl Froch predicts potential Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk trilogy fight
Former super-middleweight champion Carl Froch has offered his prediction for a potential third fight between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk, following AJ’s newfound form since the appointment of Ben Davison as his new lead trainer.
The Ukrainian twice triumphed over Joshua to first win and then defend the unified heavyweight titles and it appeared that the Briton’s time at the top could be over, after two frustrating performances against Jermaine Franklin and Robert Helenius followe.
However, AJ then teamed up with Ben Davison and secured back-to-back knockout wins against Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou to re-announce himself to the peak of the division.
The Brit now finds himself in a position where he is likely to face the winner of Fury-Usyk, possibly for the undisputed title, but Froch told his YouTube channel that he believes that the unified heavyweight world champion has simply got his number.
“AJ-Usyk, I’ve got to say Usyk. He has already beaten him twice, I feel like when Usyk steps on the gas and ups the tempo and the work rate he dominates. It is not like it is a close fight, I think that Usyk it far superior, but the question is a good question because Anthony Joshua looked very good [this month], albeit against Ngannou who was in his second fight as a professional.
“He is punching with confidence, he is looking his opponents in the eyes and he is standing with authority. He is stepping in with his punches, he is rotating his body through and that is why he knocked out Ngannou in devastating fashion.
“I’d have to say that Usyk is the best heavyweight in the world at the minute, what an exceptional talent, what a great fighter.
“100% he [Usyk] has got his [AJ’s] number.”
The crowning of a first undisputed champion will commence for the first time since 1999 when Fury and Usyk meet in less than two months’ time, and Joshua is sure to have a keen interest on the showdown.
