Shields crowned World heavyweight champion with a knockout win
Magnificent Michigander Claressa Shields (5-0, 3KO) made history by being crowned WBC and WBO World heavyweight champion, after knocking out Defending titlist Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse, early in the second round, at the Little Caesar Arena in Michigan.
‘T-Rex’, 29 from Flint, finished the first round with a series of power combinations.
She clearly dominated the second round from the very beginning, sending her rival to the canvas three times to force the referee to stop the fight at 1:09 of this round.
Shields stepped into the ring for the first time since defending her undisputed middleweight title with a unanimous decision over Maricela Cornejo just over a year ago.
She is currently reigning as undisputed middleweight and heavyweight world champion, simultaneously.
