Diogo Dalot is viewed as a potential Man United captain if Bruno Fernandes does depart.

Manchester United ended the season on a real high, which will hopefully provide positive momentum going into next term.

The FA Cup trophy was lifted aloft by club captain Bruno Fernandes, on the back of yet another insane display from the Portuguese Magnifico.

However, since then, doubts have been raised about Bruno’s future at the club, with reports suggesting that there’s a chance of a potential exit for the former Sporting Lisbon man.

In that event, a new club captain would have to be found. Steve Bates, while speaking to Give Me Sport, has thrown Diogo Dalot’s name into the mix as a likely option to wear the armband if Bruno does leave.

According to the report, the 25-year-old United star is viewed as ‘captain material’ inside the club, assuming Bruno walks away from the Theatre of Dreams.

Dalot is also looked at as someone who shows that you don’t have to spend mega money in order to sign quality players, with Jose Mourinho signing the full-back for under £20m back in 2018.

For what it’s worth, I still think it’s highly unlikely that Bruno leaves this summer. He’s under contract at Old Trafford and he loves it here. It’d take some sort of major fallout, or a mega offer for this to even be considered.

As a replacement, though, Dalot being the best option tells you about the state of the squad. I’d personally have Lisandro Martinez as my number one option but his injury issues make it unlikely, at least for the time being. To me, it just highlights the need to acquire more dressing room leaders in the transfer market this summer.
