Ryan Garcia’s dad, Henry, did some gloating at the post-fight press conference following his son’s 12-round majority decision victory over Devin Haney last Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Calling Out the Doubters

At the post-fight press conference, Henry signed out boxing expert analysts Tim Bradley, Chris Algieri, and Paulie Malignaggi to let them know that they’d been proven wrong by Ryan (25-1, 20 KOs), who looked like a masterpiece with how he worked over the previously unbeaten Haney (31-1, 15 KOs) to win in front of a shocked crowd.

Those three were just a few of the people who had picked against Garcia. A whole slew of media peeps and fans saw this as a whitewash victory for Haney and gave Ryan virtually no chance of winning the fight.

The Sweet Taste of Vindication

Haney’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, had predicted that Ryan might not come out of the dressing room for the fight. If he did, he’d either leap out of the ring to skedaddle or pull a “no mas” on his stool to quit to save his hide.

“Paulie Malignaggi, Timothy Bradley, Chris Algieri, Steve Kim, Mario Lopez..they are all pieces of s***. I’m so glad you f**** lost, and Ryan proved them wrong,” said Ryan Garcia’s dad, Henry Garcia, at the post-fight press conference, taking a shot at the media members who had picked Devin Haney to defeat Kingry last Saturday night.

It’s got to feel great for Henry Garcia to get the last laugh, and do a bit of gloating to kick sand in the faces of some of the many who had picked against Ryan in this fight. Some of them, including Devin’s dad, Bill Haney, had predicted that this would be the last fight of Ryan’s career and that he would be retiring.

Turning the Tables

Bill talked about how Devin was doing boxing a good turn by getting rid of Ryan, which was an odd way of thanking him for his decision to throw a bone to Haney by giving him the opportunity to fight and giving him $1.5 million extra to fatten his purse due to his $500K per pound bet that he’d made. Just totally ungrateful and a perfect example of someone biting the hand that feeds.

Now, instead of Ryan being the one who is down and out, looking at a dire skidrow situation, it’s Haney who is faced with a bleak future outlook.
