Jared Anderson weighed in at 250.9 lbs, while his opponent, Ryad Merhy, came in at 235.6 pounds at Friday’s weigh-in for their 10-round heavyweight main event contest this Saturday, April 13th, on ESPN at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. The start time of the event is at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT on ESPN, ESPN Deportes & ESPN+

Anderson weighs 21 lbs heavier than the 239 he weighed for his last fight against 40-year-old journeyman Andriy Rudenko last August. I wish I could say all the weight the 24-year-old Anderson has put on is all muscle, but I can’t.

It looks like he’s been eating well since the Rudenko fight. Hopefully, that doesn’t come back to bite him on the backside against Merhy, but he should be safe because this guy isn’t a threat. Kevin Lerena beat him, which tells you all you need to know about what Saturday’s fight is about for Anderson. It’s a showcase.

“I respect Deontay,” he said. “I think he has one hell of a punch, but he can’t beat me, and I’m just going to leave it at that. I’m too much of a well-rounded boxer, and I’m going to beat him in great fashion,” said Jared Anderson to talkSport Boxing about his interest in fighting Deontay Wilder.

“With the type of skills and talent levels he got, he can reach the Ali level great status, the Tyson Fury, George Foreman, Joe Frazier and all the greats,” said Shakur Stevenson to Top Rank Boxing about his friend, Jared Anderson.

“The type of talent that Jared has got, I think he can be one of the best heavyweights in all of boxing right now.”

“I feel like my career is going in the right direction. It’s the only way is up. I’m still working like it’s my first day. I’m on the job. Make sure you stay with the journey and stay with me,” said Anderson.
