Man United could now wait until after the summer before finalising a new contract for Kobbie Mainoo.

Manchester United Football Club ended their season a major high, which was somewhat surprising given how poorly the campaign went on the whole.

We have to give credit and praise to the Old Trafford side, managed by Erik ten Hag, who saved their best display for the most important game of the season.

My Man of the Match was Kobbie Mainoo. The young man was sublime yet again, showcasing his insane ability on the biggest stage, without looking phased by it whatsoever.

A couple of months ago, there were suggestions that Mainoo was in line for a new contract, which would reflect his place within the first-team fold. All went quiet on that front.

Now, The Telegraph (subscription required), have provided an update on that front. It’s stated that United are now ‘likely’ to wait until after the summer, before tying the rising star down to a new and improved deal.

Apparently, the talks are on pause given the amount of work that United have to undertake over the summer as they look to reshape the squad – while there’s still the possibility a new boss could be in charge.

Thankfully, the Mainoo camp are said to be ‘relaxed’ about the situation, without placing any pressure on the club to get this deal done.

We’re incredibly fortunate that Mainoo (and his camp) are remaining grounded. This young man personifies calmness on the field. It looks like he’s carrying himself perfectly off it, too.

While it would make sense for United to get this deal done sooner rather than later, I totally understand why the club want to prioritise other situations first as the Stockport-born-midfielder still has plenty of time left to run on his current terms.
