Man United are seemingly desperate to sign Aaron Anselmino from Boca Juniors.

Manchester United have endured a disastrous season, particularly defensively. Erik ten Hag has been offered no real consistency in that area of the field, leading to a constant changing of the back four.

Lisandro Martinez has missed large chunks, while Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire face uncertain futures. As things currently stand, I’d argue it’s the most pressing need going into the summer transfer window.

Several names have been linked with filling the void, with Jarrad Branthwaite feeling like the current front-runner.

However, other names have been in the mix, including Aaron Anselmino.

Planeta Boca Juniors, via Sport Witness, have provided a major update on that front over the last 24 hours.

They state that United have been keeping an eye on Anselmino since the start of this year, despite making only four appearances.

According to the information, the Reds view the player as a ‘gem’, while it’s claimed United are ‘willing to do anything’ to sign the teenager from Boca Juniors.

Around £20m should be enough to secure his signature, with United said to be ‘determined’ to get this deal done.

Anselmino is currently out injured, and has been since last month, though that isn’t halting interest in the 19-year-old, with Chelsea also said to be keen. You’d have to imagine the London club would be the early favourites, due to the fact they have European football on offer.

United have a hit and miss history when it comes to buying South Americans, though it does feel like an area of the market that United should tap into, given the recent success stories from that part of the world.

Anselmino is a top talent, though it is tough to gauge whether he’ll develop into a player with the quality to perform at the elite level.
