Manchester United have reportedly not given up on a deal for Tosin Adarabioyo.
According to Dharmesh Sheth (via GivemeSport), the Red Devils have shown interest in Adarabioyo but are also exploring various options to enhance their defence.
The 26 year old, currently a free agent, has attracted attention from Chelsea and Newcastle.
Adarabioyo, who moved from Manchester City to Fulham, has impressed with his composure on the ball and recovery pace.
United are said to be keen on strengthening their woeful defence which conceded 58 goals in the Premier League last season.
United’s defensive struggles were compounded by the injuries to key players Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez, who managed only six starts together throughout the season.
The defensive pairing was pivotal in United’s rare successes but their recurring fitness issues have made it imperative for United to look for reliable alternatives.
Harry Maguire’s inconsistency and Jonny Evans’ advancing age further justify the need for reinforcements.
Adarabioyo’s availability on a free transfer makes him an attractive option for multiple Premier League clubs.
However, United will need to move swiftly if they wish to secure his signature, as reports suggest Chelsea have already reached an agreement with the player.
The conflicting report claims that the English centre back has agreed to a three-year deal at Stamford Bridge and the signing has been approved by incoming manager Enzo Maresca.
In addition to Adarabioyo, United are reportedly interested in Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite among other defensive prospects.
