Three-time MVP Nikola Jokic is actively advocating for the Denver Nuggets to pursue a trade for Russell Westbrook from the Los Angeles Clippers.
Westbrook, who has opted into his $4 million contract for the upcoming season, is reportedly on the trade block.
Sources indicate strong mutual interest between Westbrook and the Nuggets, fueled by Jokic’s personal desire to team up with the former MVP.
According to Nuggets insider Harrison Wind, Jokic has been pushing behind the scenes for Westbrook’s acquisition, emphasizing his eagerness to play alongside him.
“I’ve been told that Nikola Jokic has been pushing behind the scenes to get Westbrook to Denver,” Wind said. “I’ve been told that Nikola Jokic wants Westbrook in Denver, he wants to play with him. It’s not the first time he’s wanted to play with him…
“It’s not just that Westbrook wants to come to Denver, it’s that Nikola Jokic, I’m told, wants him here and that gives me a little more belief.”
Last season, Westbrook averaged 11.1 points, 5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game in 22.5 minutes off the bench for the Clippers.
